All about our Beaver sections

Beavers is open to children aged 6-8 years old. We do have a long waiting list for our three Beaver colonies. Register for Beaver waiting list here to add you child's name to the waiting list. Each Beaver Colony is run by its Beaver Leader (BSL), Assistant Beaver Leader (ABSL) and their helpers. The Beaver Scout Leader is responsible for the programme, planning, and badge work. The Beavers are organised into smaller groups called Lodges. The Lodges are known by different colours and made up of a mix of Beaver Scouts.

Rota
of parent helpers
The Beaver leadership team must have two warranted leaders and, ideally, at least two adult helpers working on a rota. The more parents on the rota, the less load on any one individual. The Parent rota is on the notice board in the lobby. Parents need to sign up to at least one meeting per term to assist the Beaver Leaders, where they might be asked to run a game or monitor a badge earning activity or other similar task, as required.

History
Our first Beaver Colony was formed in February 1994, this was so popular that the following year we opened a second Colony.  This second Beaver Colony also had girls in it, so at this point the whole Group  become co-educational to ensure the girls could progress through all the other sections of the Group. The two colonies were then named "Castle" after Harry Castle, our first Scout Leader   "Cote" after the North Cote estate.
